The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)administers the Electrical Training Alliance Aptitude Test (NJATC Aptitude Test)—a timed test that aims to help candidates who want to become licensed electricians and certified technicians. It has has been developed specifically to assist in the selection of electrician apprentices for the respective apprenticeship programs.

The IBEW Aptitude Test has two math sections: (1) algebra and 2) functions.  This is a test of your ability to solve problems using algebra and associated mathematical functions. It assesses your ability to reason using numbers and numerical concepts.

In order to solve the questions on this test, you need to know basic math. This includes a full command of

  • basic operations,
  • powers, and roots
  • fractions
  • decimals.

In addition, you should be familiar with the following elementary algebra concepts:

  • Evaluating Algebraic Expressions
  • Simplifying and Factoring Polynomials
  • Understanding Different Formats of Linear Functions
  • Analyzing Functions
  • Number Series/Sequences
